Los Angeles World Airport

I joined a student team initiative to improve the flow and accessibility of the Bus Gates in the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Our Philosophy:

By creating a handicap-accessible environment, we are improving the overall travel experience for all individuals.

Example: Making changes such as replacing stairs with a gradient for wheelchairs, benefits travelers with strollers and suitcases: providing comfort to all through innovation.

Problem:

Restricted gate access for disabled travelers due to asymmetrical overcrowding, meaning that while the Gate area has little accessibility, there is an abundance of unused space in the Alcove

Solution:

A focus on improving the Alcove space to attract passengers there and spread out the crowd

Implementation:

Improve Alcove by providing two airport utilities for travelers: charging stations and gate information, this made the space usable upon arrival to it

Make the space a pleasant place to spend some time, by adding couch seating and a wall mural to attract passengers to the more visually aesthetically part of the Bus Gates

SMS Based Application:

Built out a web-based chatbot that will work over SMS to communicate information to the passengers: adding another level of messaging, as they enjoy the alcove amenities
